| #911 RACING WWW.KIMMYSKORNERRACING.COM Tuesday May 20th Mother Nature finally decided to cooperate & let the racing season get started. Last Sunday (May 11th) for Mothers Day We made the long drive over to Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls, WI (135 miles one way). There was a great crowd and a good number of racers there. This was the first time at this track but I had a great time and plan on returning to race there again. I took 16th place out of 19 Street Stocks. This past weekend was full of racing. We started off Friday (May 16th) at Kopellah Speedway in St Croix Falls, WI. As we were pulling into the speedway it started to rain. After a short rain shower the races were able to proceed. I placed 4th in my heat and 7th in the Street Stock feature. On Saturday (May 17th) we headed off to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI. When we arrived the races for the night were delayed with a little rain and wind. Then the weather cleared up for a chilly but great night of racing! There I placed 4th in the heat and 12th in the Street Stock feature On Sunday we made the drive over to the Golden Spike Speedway in Saulk Rapids, MN. The weather was great for racing and there was a great crowd of racers and spectators. I took 5th place in my heat and 14th in the Street Stock Feature. It was a fun weekend and a lot of work (and expensive). This next weekend (Memorial Day Weekend) is going to be another weekend full of racing: Thursday May 22nd @ Cedar Lake Speedway Friday May 23rd @ Kopellah Speedway Saturday May 24th @ Cedar Lake Speedway Sunday May 25th @ Rice Lake Speedway Monday May 26th may be a possibility at Eagle Valley Speedway Come out and show your support for our troops!! | #911 RACING www.kimmyskornerracing.com May 28, 2008 This past Memorial weekend was another complete weekend of racing! On Thursday May 22nd, we headed for Cedar Lake Speedway. With all the rain outs they added this night to make up for some of the missed races. There wasn't a lot of cars & spectators but it was a good night for racing. I finished the Street Stock races in 7th place. On Friday we headed over to Kopellah Speedway. There wasn't a huge amount of cars but the races were good. In my feature I was pulling off the track and got hit in the back right side peeling back the fender, tearing a tire, wrecking a shock and more. I took 7th place for the night. Saturday morning we got up early & got to work on the car. We straightened everything out and replaced some parts. After spending the day working on it we were ready to go for the next race. We loaded up and headed off to Cedar Lake Speedway for their race night filled with double features for each class. The car ran great! I finished the preliminary feature in 13th place and 9th in the main feature. We had planned on heading to Rice Lake Speedway on Sunday but with the threat of bad rain storms we stayed home to relax. This week we will be racing on Saturday May 31st at Cedar Lake Speedway JOIN US FOR CEDAR LAKES MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT! MAY 31ST Free general admission with display of Military ID. Minnesota & Wisconsin will be having a swearing in ceremony during intermission of the new recruits that will be going off to basic training. Come out and show your support! | #911 Racing News June 5, 2008 This past weekend we took Friday night off to prepare for Saturday and Kim also had to work her regular job as a police dispatcher. On Saturday May 31st with the threat of rain the racers and spectaors joined Cedar Lake Speedway for a night of racing and to honor our Military Personel. Minnesota & Wisconsin held a joint swearing in ceremony at the beginning of the races followed by the displaying the flags by the US Army Honor Guard and the National Anthem was sung by Lindsey Bailey, Miss Farmington. With the skys getting darker and the storm moving in the track officials tried to get all the races in. I think each class of cars did some racing in the rain then the rain came down hard and the storm sirens sounding at the end of the Late Model's second heat race forcing the races to be cancelled for the evening. The remainder of the races will be made up next Saturday June 7th. Sunday we took the day to relax with the rain again. Joing us next weekend for some great racing! If mother nature cooperates and lets up on the rain. Friday is up in the air, we may go to Kopellah Speedway or just take the night to work on the car. We will be picking up a bigger motor this week and plan on putting it in on Sunday. Which means we probably won't race on Sunday, it'll be a day spent upgrading the car. Once the motor is in, we will be making the rounds for as much racing as possible. Keep and eye on our schedule which is updated weekly on www.kimmyskornerracing.com . With the cost of each race averageing $150 for gas and entry fees (without repairs and the new engine) we are in need of some sponsors to join our team. We are making it to tracks in several areas giving great exposure opportunities to our sponsors. Join us and we will produce lots of exposure and awareness of your business! | #911 Racing News August 7th, 2008 On Thursday July 17th Dave Madsen and Shaun Kelley, driver of Modified car #1K & who is one of the drivers & mechanics who have been very helpful to my growth as a driver met us at Cedar Lake Speedway for their practice night. We took turns with the car on the track with him giving me advice and showing me how to drive the car better. Other than 1 muffler falling off and some brake problems the practice night went well. We took Friday night off to make the repairs to the muffler and brakes. We found a leak in one brake line and replace both lines and after we replaced both mufflers it now sounds like a race car! On Saturday we put the car on the scales and were all ready to head out to Cedar Lake Speedway when we got the bad news that mother nature won again canceling the races because of rain. Friday July 27th rolled around and we were ready to go to Kopellah. The weather was questionable so we kept checking for updates. Mid afternoon came along with the cancellation of races at Kopellah Speedway due to rain the night before and threat of more rain for the evening. On Saturday July 28th, the weather was great for racing! We finally beat mother nature! I finished my heat in 7th place and 12th in my feature. On August 1st, it was my birthday and we headed to Kopellah Speedway. There was a great field of cars and in my heat I was running in 3rd until just before the checkered flag when I was passed by another car with me finishing in 4th place. Between races I was talking with Mike Kelley, driver of Modified car #01. He was describing how he watched me driving the car and gave me some advice to try in the next race. Time came for the feature and I put Mike's advise to work having a good race and ending in 8th place. On Saturday August 2nd the Street Stocks were not racing at Cedar Lake due to the Nationals racing there so we ventured off to a new track. We made the 135 mile drive to Deer Creek Speedway in Sprig Valley, MN. In my heat I spun into the backstretch wall after I came out of turn 2. I limped the car down into the pits and we went to work. Rick took a Goodyear tire off a rim and mounted a Hoosier tire while pulled and hammered out the smashed the dents in the front & back fenders and back bumper. We got the car finished just in time for my feature. With just one caution in the feature due to a car rolling over I finished in 11th place. Deer Creek is a very nice facility and we hope to make it back there sometime. Next week we plan to race: Friday, August 8th @ Kopellah Speedway Saturday, August 9th @ Cedar Lake Speedway Sunday, August 10th @ Golden Spike Speedway Friday, August 15th car on display @ AUSA Golf tournament Saturday, August 16th @ Cedar Lake Speedway Join the 911 race team $100 club! | 911 RACING NEWS AUGUST 28, 2008 It's Catch up time! I've been so busy racing and working that these new letters have gotten behind. I have been having a lot of fun and hope you have been able to see me race or keep up with my progress. On August 8th at Kopellah Speedway, I finished my heat in 6th place and 8th place in the feature. On August 9th at Cedar Lake Speedway I had Modified driver Shaun Kelley race my car. We wanted to see what the car can do and get some advice on the set up of the car. Shaun finished 2nd in the heat and 6th in the feature. Shaun said the car needed more gear. Monday we bought new gears and installed more gears in the car. Friday August 15th my car & myself were on display at AUSA's golf tournament fundraiser while I also ran their silent auction. Saturday, August 16th we were back at Cedar Lake Speedway. Again Shaun Kelley drove the car finishing 7th in the heat and pulling off the track during the feature due to the transmission slipping, taking 16th place. Monday we took the transmission out and found it almost completely cracked in half. Over the next couple days we replaced the transmission with a power glide and made some other adjustments and were back ready to race on Friday. Friday August 22nd was also mechanics races. The car ran great, with me finishing 6th in the heat and 10th in the feature. Rick took the car for a spin for the mechanics races and finished in 3rd place missing 2nd by a nose. Saturday August 23rd, Shaun was back in the car at Cedar Lake Speedway. Shaun ended the heat in 5th place and the car had a water pump leak. After some repairs the feature rolled around with Shaun finishing in in 7th place. Sunday August 24th we headed for Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN. The weather and the track was great! I saileed around the track like I was on a Sunday drive, I was having a lot of fun! I finished 5th in my heat and started 10th in the feature ending in 6th place. I really enjoy racing at this track, they really are organized. I will be back! Check us out at these upcomming locations: Friday August 29th @ Kopellah Speedway (Season Championships) Saturday and Sunday August 30th & 31st @ North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN for the Mighty Axe Nationals Wednesday September 10th @ Cedar Lake Speedway for the Legendary 100 September 25th @ Cedar Lake Speedway for the Badger State Nationals Friday & Saturday October 3rd & 4th @ Deer Creek Speedway for the Heartland Nationals www.kimmerskornerracing.com |
Meet my pit crewmember for a day! 9-year-old Spencer Cuccio 911 Racing News October 16, 2008 In ending the 2008-racing season with a total of 34 races, I kept busy the last month traveling to various racetracks. First up was the Season Championship at Kopellah Speedway on Friday August 29th. With 11 Street Stocks on hand, I finished the race in 9th place and ended the Track season point standings in 6th place. The next day August 30th we headed to Brainerd, MN for the Mighty Axe Nationals 2 day show. This was my first time at this track so with various tracks having different banking & surfaces it was also a new challenge for me. I like to drive hard into the turns but found at this track with the fast long front & back stretches & sharp turns I had to go slower into the turns. On Saturday August 30th, I finished in 10th place in the Consi (B-Feature) and on Sunday August 31st I finished the Consi in 11th place. Next up was the Legendary 100 at Cedar Lake Speedway. With 40 Street Stocks on hand Wednesday September 10th I finished 10th in my heat then in the B-Feature rather than dropping to the back I started towards the front in the outside lane. The green flag was given and I got pinched into the wall. Back in the pits we did what we could to get the car fixed enough to get back on the track for the B- Feature & finished in 22nd place. We hauled my car home & on Thursday we headed back to the track hauling our friends Super Stock to race for the next 3 days, which ended up with 2 days of rainouts. Moving onto the Badger State Nationals back at Cedar Lake Speedway September 25th-27th the weather was great all weekend. Racers & Spectators that missed this event missed a great weekend full of racing action!! I finished in 13th place on Thursday September 25th and 15th place on Friday September 26th. On Saturday September 27th I had to be in Rochester for another event so I had Rick’s nephew Kyle Matuska drive my car. Kyle normally drives a Midwest Mod & hadn’t driven a Street Stock before. He found they both handled very different but after a few laps he had it figured out & ended the feature in 16th place. The final race of the year would bring me back to Deer Creek Speedway for the Heartland Nationals 2 day show. This race was also special because I invited a special fan & aspiring racecar driver, 9-year old Spencer Cuccio into the pits to be a Crewmember for a day. Spencer & his dad had watched me race during my rookie year last year at Kasson Speedway & enjoyed watching me grow as a driver. I looked forward to meeting him & having him join me in the pits to see the cars & action behind the races. I ran my heat on Friday night ending in 9th place. Then I raced the B-Feature & the main feature on Saturday finishing in 16th place. Now that this season is done we are tearing the car apart. The motor will be going to Kelley engines to be refreshed while we rebuild and redesign the car. Also as we near the Holiday Season I will be working with the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) to help provide toys for Christmas parties for our troops & families here at home. If you know of a troop that would like to have a Christmas party & could use some help making it special, please have them contact us. If you are interested in helping us provide a toy for each military child donations can be sent to: Toys 4 Military Kids, Attn Souts Manivanh, 1835 Energy Park Dr, St Paul, MN 55108 or you can contact myself. Donations to AUSA are tax deductible, 501(c) 3, tax id #53-0193361. www.kimmyskornerracing.com |
